💕 Goddess Fish Promotions Tenth Anniversary Celebration & Gift Card Giveaway 💕

Welcome to the Goddess Fish Promotions Tenth Anniversary Month Long Celebration!

Who is Goddess Fish Promotions? And what do we do? We're glad you asked!

We didn't want your visit here to be dry and boring, so we decided to have a poetry competition and put what we do into verse. Here are the initial entries:

Marianne:

Roses are Red.
Violets are Blue.
I'm awful at poetry.
Coffee.

Judy:

We can edit your book
find things you didn't see
It will be fun to look
at the changes from me.

Yeah, for some reason, Judy won!

About Goddess Fish Promotions

Goddess Fish Promotions was established October 14, 2008. Why? Well, when Marianne became a published author and got her the first taste of trying to promote a book on a budget, there was only one other virtual book tour company in place at the time, and their fees were simply too high for a small press author. After coordinating and running her own tour, she knew other authors could use the same service for a reasonable price. Thus, Goddess Fish Promotions was born.

Because both Judy and Marianne were authors and editors prior to running Goddess Fish Promotions, they approach the business with a unique point of view, and treat their clients how they would expect to be treated.

The people behind the fish

Judy Thomas

Judy has a college degree in English and she’s worked in retail, education, at her local library as well as an editor for a small press and for the now defunct ShadowKeep Ezine. She’s also a published author so can see things from both sides of the fence. In 2013, she “retired” and now spends her days helping authors make their dream come true—as well as working as much as she can with her local theater group.

Marianne Arkins

Grammar freak and coffee lover, Marianne wrote her first novel at ten years old, built her first commercial website in 2000, and published for the first time in 2006. She worked as a professional editor for just over a year, and knows what it’s like to write, edit and promote a book on a budget.

A Day in the Life of Judy

I have to pick a day that my husband, who also owns his own business, is out doing his thing, because any day that he is off, all bets are off for me once he gets up.

I begin my weekday early early…. WAY before the crack of dawn. We ask that all the hosts have their posts up by 4 AM Eastern time so the authors get plenty of promo time. So, that means we are up at 4 a.m. to make sure the posts are up. If they are, great... if not, we send a reminder to the host and let the author know. We do this for every single stop for the day – the sight of our calendar would scare you sometimes! All the social media promotion is also scheduled.
Lather, rinse, and repeat for the next two hours.
I get my husband up, feed us, then feed the cats (we have two) and do "morning chores": litter box cleanup, unloading the dishwasher, feeding the fish outside, summer requires pool maintenance, and watering. Once Bob leaves for the day, it's back to work.
I find I work better (and my house is happier) if I work on a 45:15 ratio. There is ALWAYS something that needs doing on Goddess Fish or LASR. I have certain things that I do first thing every morning so they don't get lost in the shuffle – sending invoices, checking to see if new tours have been added to the blog. After 45 minutes of sitting in front of the computer, I get up, move around, and 15 minutes of "chore time." It's amazing how much you can get done if you are concentrating on getting something done in 15 minutes. I have a couple of charts that help me stay on track – one for regular maintenance, the other for decluttering. My first 15 of the day is spent on that day's decluttering chore.
Again, lather, rinse, and repeat throughout the day – with a break for lunch. After lunch, I take care of me by hitting our pool for half an hour, then showering.
After my shower, again, back to work until time to go visit my mom in the nursing home (she had a stroke 2 and a half years ago). This is a special time for both of us—thankfully her mind is good, but she has trouble talking and is wheelchair bound.
When I come home, it's supper, clean up, and back to work until bedtime (fortunately, my husband is very understanding… and it helps that I can sit in front of the TV and listen to whatever is on while working…evening work chores require a lot of copy and pasting – for example, putting in the URLs that hosts have prescheduled (and all you hosts who do that, thank you very much).
Bedtime by 9…and there you have the exciting life of a business owner. Of course, days that go precisely like this are few and far between. There are errands to do, bills to pay… it's not unusual to have something come up. But, that's the beauty of having an Internet business. Have computer, have Internet, will travel!
How about you? What is a typical day like for you?

✏️ Editing

"I worked with Marianne on a complete edit and was very happy with the results. Her feedback was clear, easy to follow, and she probed on things I hadn’t thought of. She was also responsive whenever I had questions and helped me work through a few issues. Her feedback and guidance improved the quality of my manuscript, all at a very fair price. I’m working on my next book and plan to use their services again."-J B Glazer, author, In Search of Mr. Anonymous

"Choosing the right editor for a project is incredibly important to an author. Let’s face it, we want the best for our books. When I was considering editors for my first indie-published book, Regenerate, I naturally thought of Goddess Fish Promotions–and I’m so glad I did.

Marianne Arkins and Judy Thomas are incredibly attentive and professional during the entire editing process. Their input was invaluable and the story is much stronger because they cared enough to help unsnarl plot points and find order in the chaos..

I can’t wait to work with them again. Truly, a top-notch editorial team!" – Sarita Leone, award-winning author of Regenerate
