Just Alex by Angela Flowers 💕 Book Blitz & Gift Card Giveaway 💕 (Contemporary Romance)

Xander Stone is one of the hottest popstars in the world. His songs are on every radio station. His face graces the cover of every top magazine, especially the tabloids.

Everyone adores him.

Except me.

I hate him.

Xander Stone took away the one person I care about more than anything. My best friend.

Oh, and the real kicker? Xander Stone is my best friend. At least he was at one time. Back when he was just Alex.

Suddenly I found myself engulfed by a pair of strong, sturdy arms, but it wasn’t right. Because they were his. Shaking my head, I pushed him away and walked across the room to stand by the door, saying, “Please go. I need you to leave.”
“What? No. Why are you pushing me away?”
“I can’t be around you.”
“Why?”
Why was he making this so damn hard? I just needed him out of here. I needed to get away from him and try to figure out if these feelings for him were real or if they were just the result of too much alcohol and Brian’s accusation. I couldn’t do that with him standing in front of me.
He gripped the back of his neck. “So that’s it? I’m just supposed to sit back and let you walk out of my life again when I just got you back?” He laced our fingers together and raised our hands to his chest. “What if I can’t?”
My breath caught, making my head spin even more.
“You have to,” I croaked, pulling my hands from his.
“I can’t.” His hands curled into fists before he scrubbed them down his face. “I don’t want to do this without you. I need my best friend, Sadie.”
I averted my eyes to protect both of us.
Was it true? Did I love him as more than a friend? Was it possible I had somehow fallen in love with him somewhere along the way? But when? How?
It didn’t matter. How many times had he referred to me as his best friend in the past five minutes? If he knew the things I’d been thinking of doing with him a few seconds ago, he would probably be disgusted.
Taking a deep breath, I said, “Yeah, well, Xander has been doing just fine without me for a while now.”
It was a low blow, one he didn’t deserve, but it was the one thing he couldn’t change. Xander Stone was a part of him, and unfortunately, he would always be a wall between us.
“I can’t stop being him,” he said.
“I know.”
That was the problem. Alex and Xander were one and the same, a beautiful melody of everything I needed and everything I hated, my own personal anthem of misery.
“That’s not fair,” he whispered, the emotion in his voice pummeling my already battered heart.
“I know.”
“You keep saying that, but it’s not helping.” He moved closer, reaching up to pull his necklace out from under his shirt while reaching out with his other hand to take my charm in between his thumb and finger. Leaning in, he locked the two pieces together, two halves finally rejoined to create a whole again. His face was so close to me all I could see was the infinite blue of his eyes.
This was it.
Our defining moment.
I could almost hear the music playing in the background, slowly building towards the crescendo. This was where we were supposed to kiss and profess our love for one another—if this were a movie that is.

But it wasn’t, and we couldn’t.
