Evangeline Bransby’s world is thrown into turmoil when she receives an unexpected invite from Valdemar Montresor, the man convicted of killing her twin brother ten years ago.
Within the ominous walls of Monroe Penitentiary, Evangeline is beguiled by Valdemar, a man wrapped in darkness and danger yet with a seductive allure she cannot ignore.
As he reveals the secrets of the Raven Hands and the truth behind her brother’s death, Evangeline finds herself caught between the dream world and reality—where the dead are restless and intent on being heard.
Evangeline must seek the truth to unravel the mystery that binds her to Valdemar and discover the power within herself to see beyond the veil of death.
Can she be the saviour, or will she perish in the arms of the man who shattered her world?
“This is so fucked up.”
“Having your blood brother ask you to shoot him because he’s going to be bricked up alive is fucked up. But it does make you realise that life is short, so you have to take what you want and fuck everyone else.”
“I don’t know what you want.”
“It’s simple. Death or you. Kill me or keep me. Stab me, or I fuck you.” He pulls my hand back up to his chest, the knife pressing into his flesh. “The choice is yours.”
“Shit. I can't…”
“I know you want this. Your dreams were a testament to that. So wet for me. So pliant. But you won’t allow me to give it to you because of who I am. You need to stop thinking about what is right and what is wrong.”
“And what does that say about me? What kind of person wants to fuck the man who killed her brother? What does that make me?”
“It makes you mine.”
“Fuck.” I wish I’d taken that drink now.
Maria Dean is an author from Yorkshire in England where she lives with her husband, two boys, and her faithful Boston Terrier. Her short stories have appeared in various publications and range from fantasy to science fiction and the supernatural, but for the long haul, her heart remains rooted in romance novels. An avid reader, she can be known to devour a book in a day, especially if there’s a twist in the tale and a swoon-worthy main character. She’s more than prepared to have her heart broken by a good book, just as long as it’s put back together again by the happily-ever-after. When she’s not reading or writing, she can be found walking her dog in her local woods, usually dreaming up her next novel or listening to an audiobook. (Google gives me a small commission if you click on ads)
