Skylar: I don't know what came over me but when my boyfriend stood me up...again, and I saw this guy—the one with tormented eyes and a shiner on his sculpted cheekbone—mangle his words in a crowded bar, I couldn't help myself. Now he figures I’ll tumble into his bed—because I kissed him without knowing his name.
But one kiss is all I'll take because he’d never go the distance for a woman with my issues.
Women love Fighting Finnegan Fortunato's body and he’s not complaining.
Finn: Actions speak louder than words and I’ve learned to let my fists do my talking. Women want my tatted boxer’s body more than romantic words I can never give them and that's the way I've always liked it. But when a sleek uptown woman knocks me out with a fiery kiss, everything changes.
Now I have to find the words to make her mine.
“There it was again. That feeling. Like someone was drawing a finger slowly down my spine. I shivered again. What was going on?
I twisted round, looking over my shoulder, instinct guiding me to the source of my—there was no other word for it—excitement—and just about stopped breathing altogether.
Not a what. A who. Right there.
Oh. My.
Tall, broad, and projecting a serious don’t mess with me vibe, he was behind me, standing in the other line of patrons fanning back from the bar, waiting to place their orders. A collared shirt and pants, both an elegant, unfussy black, clung to his massive shoulders and muscled thighs, accentuating a physique so flawless he could be a comic book super hero or a Renaissance sculpture come to glorious life. I swallowed, amazed at the speed and intensity of my reaction to a stranger. Steadying my breaths, I forced a mental shrug. Okay, so he was stunning to look at. Clearly, the guy worked out. Good for him and yay for me because this man was the definition of eye candy and there was no law against looking, was there?
But as much as I strove to present a put together, this is New York City and I see gorgeous men like you every day of the week vibe, my body did not get the cool-down message. Because this guy was different. Raw, rough around the edges and the complete opposite of the slick city guys who dominated this bar. He looked…real. Blood pounded hot and urgent under my suddenly tight skin. I locked my knees because all of the sudden I was lightheaded and totally capable of falling right off my heels just staring at his hands.
Those hands. Broad, prominently veined and capable of damage, I’d bet. Working man’s hands. Mesmerized, I tracked him as he methodically rolled the cuffs of his shirt up past his sexy wrists—exactly when had I ever found wrists sexy?—showcasing swirls of red ink mingled with the fine jet black hair of his corded forearms. Add shower-damp, cropped hair in the same ebony, yard wide shoulders and yeah, no wonder I couldn’t catch my breath.
I willed him to look directly at me. Into my eyes. So he’d see how he was messing with my equilibrium.
What’s your favorite way to combat stress?
My favorite way to combat stress is reading, of course. Sometimes I read via audiobook while walking along the Hudson River and that’s a double stress buster. Other times I combat stress with meditation or yoga or watching a favorite show like the Gilmore Girls.
Why is your featured book a stress busting read?
Even though this book features Fighting Finn Fortunato, a big, brawny boxer as its main male character, he’s an actual sweetheart, the original cinnamon-roll and when he meets his perfect match in the shy, talented, big-hearted, Skylar.
