Unmasking the Marquess by Pamela Gibson πŸ’• Book Tour and $10 Giveaway πŸ’• (Historical Romance)

Betrayal is the enemy of trust and their fragile, new-found love is about to shatter...

He was a licentious rogue, or was he?

Aubrey St. Clair, Marquess of Leisterbridge, a notorious rake and society fribble, abandons his bride on their wedding night to spite his father, the man who coerced him into the marriage. When his intrepid bride turns up at his personal estate to quash the scandal, they call a truce and finally get to know each other.

Lady Catherine Sturbridge considered ending her betrothal. But a threatening letter sent to her by a convicted criminal whom she chanced upon in London, changed her mind. Marrying the powerful Duke of Gresham’s heir would keep her loved ones safe, even if she must tie herself to a frivolous rogue.

When, despite her silence, her enemy abducts her godchild, Catherine is forced to confide in her husband who agrees to help her. But can she trust him to know what to do when a child’s life is at stake and they’ve been warned not to go to go the authorities?

As they work closely together, they succumb to the passionate side of their marriage. But Catherine is wary, despite finding a different man under the guise of a society dandy, and when Aubrey reveals a long-held secret, she must protect her heart because betrayal is the enemy of trust and their fragile, new-found love is about to shatter.

Catherine slipped her arms into her wrapper and left her bedchamber. Not bothering with shoes, she hurried back to her husband’s room and entered.

He cocked his head and glared. “You again?”

“Has the dog been limping?”

“He has.”

“Hold his head steady while I probe.”

She ran her hand down the leg indicated. The dog yelped as she touched a rough spot. “He seems to have some kind of injury here, but it looks scabbed over. When I examined the stillroom on my tour of the house I saw arnica paste. Apply a bit to the wound, then wrap it with pieces of an old cravat so he doesn’t lick it.”

He looked at her with an amused smile. “Anything else?”

“Yes. The dog needs more heat.”

“He’s in front of the fire.”

“More. Wrap him in a blanket and have your valet warm towels. Make a nest somewhere.” She glanced around the room with its enormous bed. “Put it on your bed. It will ease the dog’s discomfort.”

“Are you daft?”

“Come now, milord. Are you too high in the instep to sleep with a dog? With your past, you must have entertained a few doxies resembling our canine friends.”

“Oh ho, we are back to insults are we?” He sat back on his haunches and folded his arms.

She stifled the comment she was about to make and gazed directly into his eyes. “If you care about this dog, as you say, you will wrap him in towels and let him sleep where warmth directly comes in contact with his body.”

“Very well. I shall do as you say.”

Perhaps he wasn’t a total rogue after all.

πŸ’• Aubrey, the hero of Unmasking the Marquess, makes a scandalous appearance in these stories: πŸ’•

Jane Stafford, raised in America, is shocked to learn she is a wealthy heiress, her late father was an earl, and her English mother is alive. Anxious to meet the woman she long-thought dead, she travels to London, only to be whisked away by her sinfully handsome guardian to a remote estate to be “schooled” in the ways of the ton.
Gilbert Carmichael, Lord Ralston, chafes at having to make a rebellious young heiress acceptable to society, especially one who is impetuous and blatantly democratic. Because the instruction she needs is more than deportment and dancing. It’s also about how to spot a rake who might woo her for her fortune.
When Ralston learns his ward is to be used as a pawn in an elaborate scheme involving a secret impersonation, he will move heaven and earth to keep her safe. Because proximity has brought the uncomfortable knowledge that his interest may be more than duty—it just might be love.

Lady Jocelyn Stafford desperately needs a husband to repair her tarnished reputation. Her obvious choice is her neighbor James, a man who once fancied her. If only she hadn’t cruelly rejected his attentions when she found herself wooed by a scandalous rake with a better title.
James Margrave, Earl of Seaton, must have an heir to keep his estate from falling into the hands of his cousin, which means he has to marry. Lady Jocelyn, who still beguiles him, would be perfect if only he could forget old slights. Instead, James asks Jocelyn to help him find a suitable wife, a task she agrees to perform, hoping to redeem herself in his eyes.
When a series of attacks put James’s life in danger, an immediate marriage becomes critical. Jocelyn is willing and available. But can he trust a woman who once broke his heart and is it fair to wed her when she might become the next victim?

Author of eight books on California history and twenty-three romance novels, Pamela Gibson is a former City Manager who lives in Southern Nevada. Having spent several years messing about in boats, a hobby that included a five-thousand-mile trip in a 32-foot Nordic Tug, she now spends most of her time indoors happily reading, writing, cooking and keeping up with the antics of her latest rescue cat, Lady Diana, a dignified senior. She loves red wine, all kinds of chocolate, old Jimmy Buffet sailing songs, and curling up with a good book.
