The Heretic Doms Club by Marie Sexton 💕 Series Tour & Gift Card Giveaway 💕 (M/M BDSM Romance)

After four tours in Afghanistan, Warren Groves couldn’t settle into civilian life. For the last twelve years, he’s survived by working odd and often illegal jobs for some of Denver’s less fortunate. His personal life is equally unsatisfactory. He can barely remember the last time he had sex, let alone the last time he got to use somebody hard and rough, the way he likes. Fate intervenes when a favor for a friend leads him to a pretty young rentboy named Taylor Reynolds.

Taylor’s spent the last few years on his own, working as a hustler, going home with anybody who’ll give him a warm meal and a place to sleep. He enjoys having a bit of force used against him, and he makes Warren an offer he can’t refuse — all the sex he wants, as rough and dirty as he likes, in exchange for room and board.

At first, Warren thinks he’s struck gold. Taylor’s the perfect roommate — he cooks, he cleans, and he’s dynamite in the sack. But Taylor has some dark demons in his head and some even darker cravings. Falling for somebody as volatile as Taylor is dangerous enough, but when Taylor’s urges turn truly self-destructive, it’ll be up to Warren to decide just how far to let things go.

Dr. River McKay moved to Denver with his husband, Terrence, hoping to give their failing marriage a new start. A year later, Terrence is gone and River’s left brokenhearted. Now, he’s decided it’s time to get back in the game. A chance encounter at the hospital introduces him to Phil, a strong-willed pharmacist who isn’t impressed by River’s degree.

Phil can’t deny his attraction to River, but dating is out of the question. Phil only does one kind of relationship -- domestic servitude, where he gives the orders and his partner obeys. To his surprise, River agrees -- not because he likes the idea, but because anything’s better than being alone.

They know the arrangement won’t last. Phil’s set in his ways and incapable of showing affection outside the bedroom. River’s unused to obedience and still in love with his ex. But their time together will change them, making them question everything they thought they knew about love, control, and relationships. When the unexpected threatens to tear them apart, they’ll have to choose between the comforts of the past and a future they can only find together.

Gray Andino is a Denver cop with a pain kink and a history of falling in love with the wrong people. He’s jealous of his friends’ newfound happiness, but with a brain that won’t shut up and a need to argue everything, finding his own soul mate seems impossible, so he settles for meaningless sex and doling out pain with willing subs.

Subs like Avery Barron.

When Avery asks to stay with Gray for a few weeks, Gray reluctantly agrees. Avery may be the perfect sub, but as an accidental roommate, he sucks. The younger child of rich, indulgent parents, Avery is an entitled slob with a disdain for rules, a lack of ambition, and an obsession with social media. Gray tolerates his presence, but when Avery breaks one of Gray’s ground rules, he punishes him and takes away his phone.

Deprived of his usual echo chamber, Avery feels lost until he discovers a local Tap House, a piano, and his buried love of music. The more Avery plays, the more the community around him blossoms. For the first time in his life, Avery has a purpose and goals for the future. But the thing he longs for most—Gray’s love and respect—may be forever out of reach.

No Good Deed

Hello, everyone! I’m Marie Sexton. I’ve been writing gay romance for over ten years now, and have published thirty-some stories in that time. I’m here today to talk about my most recent series, the Heretic Doms Club.

But it wasn’t called that in the beginning.

This series began with One Man’s Trash, which is about Warren and Taylor. I had a pretty good idea of how their relationship would develop. I knew I’d be straying into some taboo territory. But as I brainstormed the whole thing, I realized I had two other unfinished stories with BDSM elements. I decided to take the main characters of those three stories (Warren, Gray, and Phil) and make them friends. And because they all seemed a little lost, I added a fourth friend, Charlie, to sort of help steer my characters in the right direction. I originally planned to call it the Failed Doms Club, because they’d all “failed” at previous relationships and been left heartbroken.

Somewhere along the way, I stumbled across this image. Now, I can’t take credit for this image. I don’t even remember now where I found it, so I apologize to whoever made it for not giving them credit. But the character wheel intrigued me.

Charlie, who I’d developed specifically as a sort of a guru, was obviously the Sage. But Warren and Gray surprised me. See, at the beginning of the series, Warren is largely living as an outlaw. He’s performing illegal jobs, helping out people who can’t go to the cops. And yet, he didn’t fit in the “outlaw” category. Warren was very clearly the Hero. And his best friend Gray, who’s actually a cop? Despite being a law enforcement agent, he’s definitely the Outlaw. Not that he’s a dirty cop. He’s not. But the heart of his personality is bucking the rules. In fact, it’s because of Gray that I decided to rename the series the Heretic Doms Club. It fit, because I very much intended to break a few rules along the way.

But what about the fourth friend (the protagonist of the second book, Terms of Service)? Where exactly did Phil fit in? I couldn’t figure it out at first. In fact, I even put this entire conversation into the book as the characters are playing poker together:

“[Warren]’s a hero,” Taylor said, not a hint of sarcasm in his voice. “Dealer takes two.”

“Warren’s a troublemaker.” Gray winked at Warren. “I’m the hero.”
“You’re the outlaw,” Taylor said.
“Outlaw? I’m a cop. How can I be the outlaw?”

Taylor shrugged. “I don’t know, but you are.”

“What about Charlie?” Warren asked.
“He’s the sage,” Taylor said.
Gray laughed. “That sounds about right. Always imparting his wisdom on us mere mortals.” He gestured toward Phil. “What about him?”

Taylor hesitated, squinting over his cards at Phil. “I don’t know, actually. I can’t get a good read on him.”

That makes two of us, River thought.

Now that the book is done and I’ve had a year or so to think it over, I realize Phil is hard to pin down because he’s torn between two contrasting versions of himself. He’s living as the Ruler, but he longs to be the Explorer. River (definitely the Lover, on this wheel) gives him that option, which is why they work.

Warren’s love interest, Taylor, starts out the Innocent (despite being anything but, from a sexual standpoint), but transitions into the Caregiver – exactly opposite from the man he falls in love with. Gray’s love interest, Avery? I want to call him the Everyman, but he’s probably the Creator. (I only recently finished writing this book, so I’ll know better in another year or so.)

And Charlie’s love interest? Well, that remains to be seen.

I hope you’ll check out my Heretic Doms. Just to sum it up (because there are a lot of characters at this point, and I might have unintentionally made it confusing), here’s how the series breaks down:

Book 1: One Man’s Trash – Warren (Hero) and Taylor (Innocent/Caregiver)
Book 2: Terms of Service – Phil (Ruler/Creator) and River (Lover)
Book 3: Spare the Rod – Gray (Outlaw) and Avery (Everyman/Creator)

Book 4: No Good Deed – Charlie (Sage) and somebody TBD
