The Nanny Song by Misty Mount 💕 Fun Facts, Book Tour and $25 Gift Card Giveaway 💕 (Sweet Romantic Suspense)

Is this new bond—and possibly Mallory's life itself—now at risk?

A dismal pall hangs over the Colt residence. Since the death of his wife, Brendan Colt has struggled to care for his children, Kason and Meela. Each is lost in their own deep grief, but there is more to this family than meets the eye.

After her tumultuous childhood, Mallory Riscoe has deftly avoided change. But her life is due for an upheaval when she’s fired from her sales associate position and takes on the role of nanny in the Colt household.

Mallory soon realizes she might have taken on more than she can handle when she finds more than two mischievous children haunting the grand, creaky house. If it isn’t the children’s brash uncle or schoolyard bullies, she finds herself confronted with strange sounds coming from the attic and suspicious late-night behavior from Brendan Colt himself.

It’s only when Mallory begins to feel a connection between not just herself and the children but their father too, that an unspeakable secret is uncovered. Is this new bond—and possibly Mallory's life itself—now at risk?

I’ve always found it interesting when writers hide secrets or “Easter eggs” within books and movies. My brothers and I grew up looking for hidden messages and objects within scenes on our old Disney movies on VHS. (This was before we could easily hunt things down on the internet, of course. It was even before the ease of the DVD, so there was always plenty of rewinding, fast forwarding, and desperate attempts to push pause at just the right spot.)

Along that same vein, I also love it when book series or shows cross over with other similar fictional worlds. There are countless examples, but did you ever notice that scene in Brooklyn 99 where Jake tries to commandeer a car from New Girl’s Jess? Or what about how author Larry Niven’s alien race, the Kzin, ended up on Star Trek the Animated Series? Sometimes all it takes is a little character, town, or product name drop to solidify a connection between separate works/worlds.

I’ve completed three standalone novels and I couldn’t help but add in just the tiniest little Easter eggs that would link my stories somewhere in the background—in some minuscule way—so that you might start to wonder if they all take place in the same world. It’s probably silly and most people wouldn’t even know to look for them, but it’s definitely a quirky little behind the scenes tidbit from my desk.

What about you? Do you have any favorite Easter eggs or crossover scenes that link your favorite fictional worlds?

Brendan’s gaze flicked over her shoulder for a split second, seeing something that caused his eyes to lose their concerned glow. “We’ll talk later.” He opened the door and suddenly the front hall felt like a freezing wind tunnel.

Before Mallory shut the door, she reached outside and grasped Brendan’s arm, the way he had done to hers. “Be safe out there . . . please.”

Brendan turned back; his eyes narrow against the stinging snow. It seemed to take an eternity before he answered, “I will.”

Mallory pressed hard to shut the door against the gusty air, then stood shivering in the hall. She watched Brendan through the panel window, trudging through the snow, using his boot to clear spots, and briefly checking for toys or debris hiding below. She tried to decipher the fluttery feeling in her chest as he turned the corner and headed alongside the house up to the garage.

  1. Thank you for sharing your fun facts. I do like crossover events on my shows like the Sleepy Hollow/Bones
crossovers that connected two unusual crime fighting teams as one dealt with the paranormal and one does not. And I loved the Arrowverse crossover that featured the Kent farm from Smallville and a cameo from Lucifer. From my childhood, I remember that Green Acres/Petticoat Junction and The Beverly Hillbillies were loosely connected and I think that there was a cameo from Mr. Ed at one point but that was all so long ago that I can't recall exactly, lol.
