The book features a quilt shop named Cardinal Creek Quilting. During the writing process, I decided to include a quilt shop, prompting visits to several quilt shops to observe their interiors and listen to conversations. In May 2022, I purchased a 1968 travel trailer for writing retreats, and fabric for curtains was bought from a quilt shop. A book with clear instructions on quilt-making was found, leading to the creation of a matching quilt. Several months, four quilts were made, and numerous quilt shops were visited. In October 2022, the idea of opening a quilt shop was proposed by my husband, resulting in the establishment of Cardinal Creek Quilting in Orange Grove, Texas, in November 2022. Presently, besides writing books, the I also design quilts.
Fun Facts about my process
When I begin planning a book, I draw from areas with which I am familiar. However, the characters can be written from various perspectives. My aim is to create characters that are timeless and adaptable to different relationships. The authors who have significantly influenced my writing include Judy Blume, SE Hinton, LaVyrle Spencer, and John Hughes. I believe their characters possess a timeless quality despite being created in a specific era; they could seamlessly fit into narratives set as far ahead as 2025. These writers excel at depicting real individuals facing genuine life situations, all captured through one person's story. In my view, character development is essential for crafting a story that stands the test of time.
