I want one reckless night to forget my pain.
He wants one night to feel something real.
When I walk into a soldier’s bar on the eve of my mother’s funeral, I’m not looking for love—just escape.
Then I see him.
A battle-weary SEAL with dark eyes and a quiet strength who offers exactly what I need.
No names. No promises. Just one wild, beautiful weekend that burns bright enough to sear itself into my soul.
But one impulsive night changes everything. And neither of us realize our story is just beginning.
“Ryan and Paige have so much chemistry that my kindle almost melted.”
“Steamy, Hot Prequel that leaves your wanting more.”
“I wish I didn’t have to go.” I voice the thought out loud.
She frowns. “You don’t want to be deployed?”
I drop my phone on the pile of yesterday’s clothes and sit next to her on the bed. “I don’t want to leave you yet.”
I run my fingers up her thigh, and the tiny hairs on the tops of her legs rise. “I’d like another night together.”
I wonder if she realizes how unusual this is, for the connection to be this good. I’ve never experienced anything like it in my life. We have a real connection, and it’s not just physical. She’s funny and bold, and if I weren’t deploying in two days, I’d want to see her again.
She leans forward, and her robe falls open. “I could delay my plans by another day.”
My fingers slide under her robe as my heart quickens. “We could spend another night in the hotel.”
It beats hanging around the base waiting for deployment. My bags are packed, and I’m ready to ship out as soon as the order comes down tomorrow.
She bites her lower lip, hesitating. And suddenly I want this so badly I’ll do anything to convince her to spend another night with me.
“I’ll pay for the additional night.”
Her expression darkens, and I realize I’ve said the wrong thing. The last thing I want Rose to think is that I’m buying her time.
“It’s only fair,” I say. “You paid for last night. I’ll pay for tonight.” My fingers continue up her thigh, and she sucks in her breath. “It makes it equal.”
“Equal,” she murmurs as my finger reaches the apex of her thighs.
“You’d better call reception and let them know.” My lips turn up in a grin as she picks up the phone.
